The state launched a program Tuesday to reward companies for hiring unemployed Texans. In the coming months, these companies would be eligible to receive $2,000 incentives with the “Texas Back to Work” program.

The state hopes to spur the economy and make Texas the first to emerge from the recession. They hope this will provide 15,000 workers with jobs, and officials already want to extend this program by applying for more federal funding.

This program includes stipulations like the new employees must be retained for at least four months, and these new hires must already be receiving unemployment insurance or have exhausted those benefits. The money will be distributed to the company in four months through $500-payments.
